Mengemamau is the newest airstrip in the Mount Hagen area, opened in 2008, MAF flights there began only in April 2009.

Although only five minutes flying time from the nearest airstrip, it takes local people about four days to cover the distance on foot. Situated on the side of the Yuat River valley the community and airstrip is in an incredibly beautiful location.
