It takes about 20 minutes to fly to Koinambe from Mount Hagen in a Cessna 206, but it would take many hours of walking and a bumpy bus journey to get there by road.

The community that the airstrip serves is in the Jimi Valley at 2,900' above sea level. The airstrip is not the easiest as it is fairly short at 437 metres, and fairly flat, so it is essential to land at the correct speed and in the right place to make sure that the aircraft can stop in time.
