Boxes of medicines are common items on MAF flights. Sometimes the aircraft is chartered by provincial health departments, as on this occasion, to take large quantities to remote health centres. On other occasion just a few boxes will make up part of a load. An orange bundle can be seen being unloaded from the aircraft. It is the body of a young boy who had died in hospital in Kerema on the south coast. His father accompanied the body back to Kaintiba, their home village. There is a stark contrast with all the trappings of a funeral in, say, England, with what is possible in PNG. |
