The Ok Tedi copper mine lies in the far west of the country and is serviced by Tabubil airstrip. As well as providing jobs, fresh vegetables are grown in the surrounding area to supply the mining community. All the vegetables familiar to western societies are grown - carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes and so on. They provide an important cash crop in the local economies. |
