Late in the afternoon it is not unusual for the rain clouds to start dispersing and give the sun a chance to appear again. A low sun shedding its golden light between layers of cloud, sometimes diffused by rain can be very beautiful.

On occasion rainbows can also be seen; flying in light rain with a low sun may create a circular rainbow which surrounds the aircraft.
